The Whats

Hello!

This is to tell you to please, I repeat please, do not feel obligated to give. A friend said my letter was deceiving...so sorry if you felt that way too. Anywho, we would love for you to follow our journey on here. We are raising support for only a portion of this trip. The other half of it will be funded personally.

So, what is the other half of the trip? Well, Nick (brother), me, Sierra, and Nick (yup there are two of them) will be getting to India a week before the rest of the group. We are flying into Dehli and will be taking an adventurous train ride down to Calcutta over the course of a week and a half. We will then spend several weeks volunteering at the hospital. After the four of us are planning to travel up to Nepal. We are still working out details, but that is the tentative plan.

We will be updating this and keeping you informed as we go. Please post comment and let us know what you think, suggestions, give encouragement, just whatever you want. It will be great for us to hear from YOU when we are gone and leading up to the journey.

I have been spending time reading about preparing for India. I have come to the understanding and awareness that there is no preparing for what I will see and experience.

Support Letter

Hello Family and Friends!

This may surprise many of you, but we have decided to travel to Calcutta India to serve at a hospital for 3 weeks. Yeah, this may sound like a death threat for one of us. Remember all the crazy fights we had as children? And teens? Oh, and adults? Well, we are not for sure past that, but we are willing to test our boundaries in hopes of becoming an awesome brother-sister pair!

This letter is a cry and a plea for support in the form of good thoughts and encouragement and yeah, you guessed it, money. (We have to raise at least half.) But, we will get to all of this later; we need to butter you up first.

In June of 2010 we will be traveling with 6 others to work in conjunction with Calcutta Mercy Ministries (http://www.buntain.org/). We will be working in and around a hospital for about 3 weeks, maybe a bit longer if we don’t kill each other first. While at the hospital, we will be providing basic care to patients, participating in building projects, creating press material, learning about procedures, experiencing poverty, becoming familiar with Indian ailments, feeding people, and much more. The beauty of this organization is they can plug us in where we will best be able to serve.

Because Nick is gargantuous is stature…and super strong he will be doing some form of manual labor accompanied with hanging out with kids and participating in the community feeding outreaches. Jessi will be writing bios on children receiving treatment for press material and going where ever else the wind blows her. The important thing is that we are going here to help, to be changed, and to grow as individual people.

Do you want to know about our adventures as they are happening? Well, you can. While we are in India we plan on maintaining a blog, Internet willing, to keep you updated on our successes, triumphs, failures, tears, and hopes. We have included the address on a separate sheet of paper so you can stick it to your computer. You will for sure want to check up on us to make sure we are alive, not because someone will try to steal us, Nick is much to big for that, but that we don’t kill each other.

This is how you can help; first and foremost we want to ask for your support in the form of good energy, positive thoughts, and encouragement on this endeavor. This is going to be a super trying time, both physically and emotionally. Because of this we need you, our family, with us.

A second way you can support us is financially. Like we said earlier we have to raise at least half of our support. The money will be used for visas, immunizations, plane tickets, insurance, and other traveling expenses. Our goal is to raise $5,000 dollars for the both of us. We don’t expect you to fund this entire operation; we are also planning on participating in other fund raising events and using employment money. Anything above and beyond will be used to help out with whatever the hospital or people of Calcutta need. Yeah, that’s a lot of money, but we are motivated to do everything we can to raise every penny.

Please do not feel obligated to give. This letter, for the most part, is intended to let you know what we are doing.

If you can great, send it to:
